Biogas production based on organic materials involves generating large amounts of the so-called digested pulp. Its usage poses many problems stemming from the low dry matter content (about 8-12%) and variable chemical content dependent on the type of substrate used for the fermentation process, among other factors. A beneficial solution for digestate management is to recognise its potential for enhancing the physical, chemical and biological soil properties or parameters. However, comprehensive research should precede the launching of the product as a fertilizer. Quality standards for digested pulp are strictly determined in the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (Rozporządzenie..., 2008). The pulp quality can be improved by its composting (through mineralization or hygienization, among others). This promising solution has been realised in this work. The variables determined in particular trials were pH value, the contents of macronutrients, nitrogen, carbon, heavy metals, and the activity of dehydrogenase, phosphatase and urease. The highest activity of dehydrogenase in the pulp with sludge was obtained. This material was characterised by high content of nitrogen and organic carbon, compared with the other tested samples. Beneficial results were also registered, in the case of application of pulp and compost with manure – without organic additives.
