Aesthetics of ornamental plants used in planting green areas in winter
Summary.

The importance of urban green areas can not be underestimated. They need to be well adapted to the local climate, resistant to pollution of the environment but also attractive in various seasons of the year. In the cities there is not enough decorative species in winter – according to surveillance. Among plants growing in the Lublin city area, even at the end of the winter season, you can spot attractive plants due to their preserved fruits, inflorescences, different shapes and colours of the leaves. Those species should be taken into account more and more when choosing new plants for urban planting. Their presence will significantly improve the aesthetics of city green areas especially in winter. The SBE method of the study was conducted to determine which plant characteristics are most decorative in winter. The highest aesthetic evaluation was received by evergreen trees and shrubs, plants with colourful organs such as branches, bark and fruits, as well as fluffy infructescences (traveller’s-joy – Clematis sp.).
