Selection of plants tolerant to higher content of heavy metals salts (Cu and Cd) in substrate in chosen cultivars of oilseed rape
Summary.

The aim of this study was to select in vitro winter oilseed rape plants suitable for cultivation in soils with elevated concentrations of heavy metals and to estimate the extent to abscisic acid and the physiological state of seeds may affect the resistance to heavy metal salts. The research material consisted of three winter oilseed rape cultivars: ‘Górczański’, ‘Lisek’ and ‘Kana’. Seeds were put in the medium Murashige and Skoog (MS) and MS medium with the addition of copper sulfate at concentrations of 0.5 μM and cadmium salts at a concentration of 5.0 μM in different physiological condition: dry, soaked for 24, 48, 72 h in water, soaked for 24, 48, 72 h in water with the addition of ABA. Resistant plants were transferred to pots with soil and further cultivation was carried out under greenhouse conditions. Cadmium salt was more toxic than the copper salt. The degree of sensitivity to the salts used in the experiment depended on the tested genotype. Physiological state of seeds of the tested winter oilseed rape cultivars was important in the selection of resistant plants. The most resistant plants were obtained on medium with CuSO4 from seeds previously not soaked in water in the  cultivar ‘Górczański’. Abscisic acid (ABA) resulted in increased resistance of seedlings in the cultivar ‘Górczański’ on medium with CuSO4. In the case of selection of winter oilseed rape cultivars conducted on cadmium sulfate ABA did not affect the increase in plant resistance to this salt.
