The paper is an overview of research subjects of XX International Grassland Congress, international symposia organised by European Grassland Federation since 2000 and national scientific conferences. On the basis of the analyses of scientific subjects, it turned out, that the following problems of grassland science should be initialized and developed: biodiversity in floral and faunal aspects, nutritional value of sward and forage from grasslands in background of quality of animal products, grazing as a form of plant natural resources utilization in the agricultural, environmental and economical aspects, improving of fodder plants using breeding for creation of cultivars valuable for animal feeding, environmentally friendly and reproduction easy, ecological functions of grassland for environment and climate, the role of meadows in the landscape forming and culture. It also turned out, that in Poland the approach to grassland is changing in terms of agriculture and its role in forming of environment, landscape and culture. It seems that good and realistic perspectives are emerging in front of both meadows and grassland science.
