The paper presents a multivariate approach to the estimation of variability for quantitative traits of six cultivars of wheat (Triticum L.) and 12 cultivars of triticale (×Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus). Four characteristics were under consideration: the degree of infection of roots, as well as leaves, and relative weight of roots and leaves. The obtained results were computed with statistical multivariate methods application. Canonical variates analysis has proved to be an effective tool for clear assessing of the studied wheat and triticale cultivars differences. The most diverse varieties of wheat were ‘Batuta’ and ‘Korweta’ (Mahalanobis distance was 8.682). The most similar varieties of wheat were ‘Bogatka’ and ‘Mewa’ (Mahalanobis distance was 1.693). Mahalanobis distance values between the triticale varieties ranged from 0.72 (between ‘Kitaro’ and ‘Lamberto’) to 10.034 (between ‘Grenado’ and ‘Presto’).
