Hydraulic characteristics of septic tank fittings in small diameter gravity sewer systems
Summary.

The paper presents hydraulic characteristics of effluent screen device at a septic tank and an innovative check valve, which compose key elements of small diameter gravity sewer systems. These data are necessary to design the small diameter gravity sewerage which is mainly used in sparsely inhabited rural areas. Hydraulic resistance of these devices was investigated at flows of clean water under laboratory conditions. Values of coefficients of minor pressure losses at the Reynolds number for the effluent screen device in range 1700 ≤ Re ≤ 36 500, i.e., for capacity 0.03 dm3/s ≤ Q ≤ 1.3 dm3/s and check valves in the range 3000 ≤ Re ≤ 30 500 (0.08 dm3/s ≤ Q ≤ 0.9 dm3/s) were determined.
