Polypropylene split fibres for reinforcement of concrete
Summary.
For many years polypropylene fibres have been used for reinforcement of concrete. Addition of fibres reduces propagation of cracks, causes an improvement of some properties of concrete including durability against environmental factors. For concrete reinforcement smooth, crimp and split fibres are offered. The paper presents investigations on split polypropylene fibres, produced in industrial conditions using production line equipped with the needle roller. The morphology, mesh dimensions and mechanical parameters of the fibres: tenacity, Young modulus and elongation at break were determined. The studies revealed that fibres produced at the smallest needle velocity exhibit fine mesh structure and possess best mechanical properties.
