The aim of the study was to establish the quantity and quality of the biogas produced in the conditions of mesophilic anaerobic sewage sludge and kitchen biowaste co-digestion,
as well as established the most appropriate digestion time, ensuring stable conditions and the effectiveness of the process. The feedstock comprised sewage sludge and kitchen biowaste mixed at the weight ratio of 4:1. The process was carried out in a constant mode for the following hydraulic retention times (HRT): 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 days. It was established that for the HRT in the range of 20-30 days, the process of anaerobic sewage sludge and kitchen biowaste co-digestion exhibited the most appropriate conditions in terms of biogas production parameters, CH4 content in the biogas produced as well as degrees of organic matter bioconversion. For the HRT value ≥ 20 days, the process exhibited stable conditions and the digestate was characterized by a high degree of mineralization.
