The effect of brown coal and its preparations on lead and zinc soil solubility
Summary.

The purpose of the investigation was to determine what level of treating soils with brown coal and coal-limestone preparations influences the contents of soil soluble in forms of lead and zinc in 1 M HCl, 0.01 M CaCl2 and H2O. The tests were carried out for soils taken from the Częstochowa area and Upper Silesia area. The soils from the area of Częstochowa Steal were contaminated with lead in II°, and zinc in I°. The soils from the area of zinc and cadmium Steal in the Upper Silesia were contaminated with lead in IV°, and zinc in II°. There were high differences between contamination of lead and zinc in soils and contents of soluble forms of these metals in
1 M HCl, 0,01M CaCl2. All the tested fertilizers reduced the contents of soluble forms of lead and zinc in the specified solution. They caused the limitation of heavy metals bioabsorptions. The change in solubility was, first of all, the result of enriching the soils with organic substances introduced alongside with fertilizers, as well as observable pH increase in the rested soils. The solubility of lead in both tested soils was significantly lower in comparison to solubility of zinc. The test results have proved that fertilizing with brown coal and coal-limestone preparations can effectively reduce the mobility of lead and zinc in the soil medium.

Key words: lead, zinc, brown coal, soil
