Technical information regarding planned construction of navigation channel across Vistula Spit as well as idea of construction of environmental friendly marine structures subjected to complex, long-term environmental impact were presented. The influence of the channel on potential changes in the natural environment of Vistula Spit especially the seaside sediment transport conditions, salinity changes in Vistula Bay, flood protection of neighboring areas, management of dredging material as well as negative impact on inhabitants and tourists due to construction and operation of the channel were analyzed and assessed. The environmentally friendly construction solutions and actions minimizing and compensating environmental losses (including foundation of artificial island for water birds) were described.
