Xenobiotics in Polish soil environment
Summary.
The study presents the degree of soil contamination in Poland with heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The presented results derive, primarily, from the research papers of Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – National Research Institute scientists from Puławy who either coordinated or supervised the monitoring program of chemism of arable lands in Poland. According to these studies, the degree of the soil cover contamination in Poland, both with heavy metals (about 3% of soils show contamination) and PAHs, is low and has remained on a similar level for many years now.
Key words: xenobiotics, soil, heavy metals, PAHs
