The object of this study was a pot experiment in which red fescue and many-species-grass-cultivation were researched. Half the amount of the pots of every cultivation group researched was fertilized with earthworms of Aporrectodea caliginosa species. In the conducted research the investigators tried to estimate the influence of grass species diversity and presence of earthworms to a number of Azospirillum spp. in soil. The investigations contained: evaluation of Azospirillum spp. MPN in soil, isolation of clean cultures of these bacteria and determination of their nitrogenase activity. The study showed that grass species variety and presence of eartworms have a significantly influence on the number of Azospirillum spp. only during one period of the research. The majority of strains were isolated from the soil from red fescue cultivation and the most frequent species was A. basilense. Isolates obtained in this research had a high nitrogen fixing activity – from 143.8 to 1478.0 nmol of C2H4 per 1 h for cultivation.
