The aim of the work was to optimize the enzymatic purification of non-edible animal fats. The purification was conducted to adjust waste animal fats to biodiesel production. Beef tallow and pig fat were the experimental materials. Central Composite and Non-factorial Response Surface Designs with use of Alpha for Orthogonality Design was used for the optimization. Enzymatic preparation, Alcalase 2.4L, was used in all experiments. The influence of the factors like reaction time, shake ratio, and enzyme ratio on reaction efficiency was investigated. Reaction efficiency was defined as an amount of recovered fat. The research revealed that the experimental design used was appropriate for both substrates, as the satisfying level of reaction efficiency of 95-100% was possible to achieve. On the basis of the results, one can conclude that enzymatic pretreatment of non-edible animal fats using Alcalase 2.4L could be a satisfying method for adjusting waste animal fats to biodiesel production.
