Macrophyte surveys were carried out in the period 2007-2008 as an element of monitoring undertaken by Voievodship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Poznań. As many as 26 lakes and 81 river sites were surveyed using Polish national methods for standing and running waters. In the result of lake research 4 lakes were classified as very good, 11 as good, 7 as moderate, 3 as poor and 1 as bad. Classification of Wielkopolska running waters showed that 5 river sites revealed very high ecological status, 43 good, 22 moderate, 8 poor and 3 bad. It was proved that monitoring based on macrophytes can be implemented for all river types existing in the Wielkopolska region and the number of aquatic species and plant communities has always been sufficient for the ecological status assessment.
