Due to landscape diversity, landform features and above all diverse colonist and tourist capacities, villages located in the Biała Lądecka River valley can be divided into two strips characterised by diverse spatial development: the strip from Żelazno to Radochów and the one from Stary Gierałtów to Bielice. The town of Lądek Zdrój and the settlement complex of Strachocin-Stronie Śląskie-Goszów form a different category. In the section from Żelazno to Radochów of the Biała Lądecka River valley, there are villages with a multi-road alignment design developed from an original chain alignment design. The river was the main development axis of these settlements. Unfortunately, its significance has not been taken into account in spatial development plans as far as tourism and recreation are concerned. There is an inadequate amount of investments connected with the riverside landscape in the Biała Lądecka River valley. Moreover, spatial development plans dating back to the 1970s and 1980s have had a detrimental influence on the developed space when taking into consideration its functionality and esthetic qualities. The idea underlying a revitalisation project is the assumption that the river is the main axis of development of all the settlements which are located in its vicinity. The greenery systems of parks, forests and recreational spaces in the river valley interconnected by pedestrian and bicycle communication strips, form the basic outline of spatial connections. The article presents the results of the research performed for the needs of a research project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education: “Palace and landscape setting revitalisation of the Biała Lądecka River valley in the section from Żelazno to Radochów” (No. 4 T07F 001 27).
