According to the European Landscape Convention landscape is an image reflecting the state of the environment and is an inevitable component of human life quality. There is no escape from the perception of ordinary landscape; however, tourism may be the way to seek untouched landscapes of outstanding beauty. Fortified landscape (see: Bogdanowski 1993) is a special kind of landscape with all its visual and historic meaning features. Its combat features such as fields of fire, lines of trenches and military roads are directly linked with the landscape morphology and its contemporary tourist attractivity of picturesque setting. There is a growing need for a modern and ecologic approach towards tourism in such regions for the tourist may no longer be only a consumer of the landscape beauty contributing to landscape degradation. The article deals with the sustainable active tourism in connection with reduction of ecological footprint in the areas of former Italian front of the Great War in Altipiani di Folgaria Lavarone and Altopiano dei Sette Communi.
