The key to determine recreational functions in small settlement units should be foundation of landscape amenity evaluation system, which would enable accurate designation of development directions. In the Wielkopolska region the resources of cultural heritage accompanied by the environmental reserves constitute distinctive landscape type, especially visible in small towns and in the country. The shortage of appropriate knowledge of the site history results often in land mismanagement, landscape deformation, or even devastation of local resources. In this context, the priority issue is the preparation of action plan utilizing advantages, strengths, and opportunities of area under consideration, but also enabling its weaknesses and constraints determination, which in turn would define most appropriate functions and means of recreational arrangement. An attempt to utilize such system is the concept of the Owińska village revaluation, in which a settlement unit becomes the element of regional program of cultural landscape preservation within the “Cistercian Cultural Park”.
