Image processing algorithms in cultural and natural substance distinction in landscape photographs
Summary.

Image processing algorithms are applied to several disciplines; however, they have been used in landscape photographs analyses to a limited extent. This approach can be very useful, because it provides objective measurement for view estimation. In this paper, the author makes an effort to distinguish between “hard” and “soft” elements of landscape that can be a starting point for their classification. Analysis of differences between these types of objects shows that they vary in spectral characteristics, as well as in the level of geometrical complexity. Application of colour channels transformations and mathematical morphology allows to separate elements categories, and consequently, to mark building substance in white, and biological one – in black. The average image brightness constitutes an objective criterion that enables to calculate level, in which given area is saturated with natural and cultural forms.
