Environmental impact assessment in protection of touristic and recreation resources
Summary.
New activities, which will appear in Poland in big numbers due to UE financial support, are often a serious threat to the touristic potential of space, like Rospuda’s case. In spite of many protests, new routes crossing unique Rospuda Valley are being planned. Therefore there is still a need to protect landscape values of Rospuda, which determine its touristic attractiveness. EIA, which potential has not been used in this case should help to achieve this goal. The weak points of EIA were presented, as well as the scope of suggested studies. The possibilities of using more effectively the competence of landscape architects in planning new development has been shown, using EIA.
Key words: landscape, tourism, threats, environmental impact assessment
