The flora of vascular plants in the planned ecological land ‘Strumień junikowski’ in Poznań
Summary.

Background. The former ecological land ‘Strumień Junikowski’ is an important local hotspot of plant biodiversity in Poznań. However, the area does not have full floristic documentation.
As there are plans to re-establish the ecological land, we analysed the flora of vascular plants in this area.

Material and methods. In 2016 we investigated the flora in the aforementioned area (94 ha) and we analysed historical, geographical and socioecological groups as well as rare and endangered species.

Results. There were 433 taxa of vascular plants belonging to 74 families in the area. Native species were predominant in the flora (75.3%), whereas the population of alien species amounted to 24.7%. There were plant species typical of different plant communities – forests, wetlands, meadows and sand grasslands, including species protected by law (Helichrysum arenarium, Menyanthes trifoliata and Ranunculus lingua) as well as rare and endangered species in the city and region (e.g. Carex elongata, C. ovalis, Equisetum variegatum, Nardus stricta, Polygonum mite and Pulmonaria obscura).

Conclusions. The most important threats to the flora in the area under study are: destruction of the habitat caused by the development of housing estates and the spread of invasive species – Impatiens parviflora, Helianthus tuberosus and Padus serotina. The area under study is of high floristic value and it should be protected by law through re-establishment of the ecological land.
It will result in conservation of the habitats of numerous plant species. The results of this study will enable better monitoring of changes in the biodiversity of urban green areas and their conservation.
