Use of sugar sorghum (Sorghum saccharatum) for biogas production
Summary.

The study determined the chemical composition and usefulness of sugar sorghum (‘Sucrosorgo 506’) silage for the production of agricultural biogas. Sorghum silage showed a higher content of crude ash, crude fiber, NDF, ADF and ADL and less dry matter, crude protein and N-free extractives than maize silage. Yield of biogas was 631 dm3 (normalized) per 1 kg of dry organic matter (DOM) and was lower than that obtained for the maize silage (656 dm3, normalized, per 1 kg DOM). The level of biomethane (CH4) in the biogas from sorghum was 52% (compared to 54% for maize silage).
